A dream comes true for sisters, just in time for World Book Day 2026!
What a whirlwind to get ‘A bit more pink?’ out in time for World Book Day, but we’ve made it!
This has been such a special project that started last year as an idea. A big sister’s wish for her little sister to go to school on World Book Day this year dressed as her very own character from her very own book. I love creativity, and this idea was definitely possible, so we made it happen. The three of us have worked together to create the story, characters, and designs.
From the big sister’s original pencil background designs to the little sister’s choice of colour for the teacher’s wings (“YELLOW!” she shouted enthusiastically with a big grin, which made us all laugh).
Staying true to their designs, I traced the pencil drawings into Apple’s Affinity design software and finished each picture with all their requested details and colours.

We each had our input into the characters, the girls were keen for the main characters to wear clothes that they already own, so photographs were taken for me to copy onto Affinity. In contrast to this, Miss Glitter’s outfit was originally designed in pencil by the big sister, and Myla was designed straight to Affinity by instructions from the little sister.
Even the smallest details were important to capture, as you can see from this range of posters.
Fun fact: The big sister originally built the fairy treehouse from her Lego so I could see their vision of how they wanted the fairy home to look…
I’ve mentioned before that I am not the greatest illustrator (see my June’25 Blog), but it turns out I’m better on Affinity than paper thankfully. Technology and I are still not the best of friends, but my thanks go to Cody for his technical support as I learnt to navigate Affinity for this book.
Before all these designs, we wrote the story together. Like all good stories, it has been changed, adapted, and edited as we’ve gone along. We started with the character’s names and then explored their personalities. This led to the outline of the story and we had fun working out the finer details. For example, there were ongoing discussions as to the colours on the cards that the school children are creating in the story!
At its core the story has remained the same, a story of sisterly love, self-belief, and inner confidence. From two sisters who really do love pink and purple, to a worldwide audience, this has been an amazing journey!
World Book Day 2026 is on the 5 th of March and the sisters will be dressed as Carol and Lilia from the story. Thank you to both of them for their inspiration, creativity and enthusiasm that has made this very special story possible.
